FLORAL CARE

Flower Arrangement
Upon arrival, check water level.
Add water if needed.  Keep container full by adding water daily.
Display in cool location out of direct sunlight.
Avoid excessively hot or cold areas.

Cut Flower Care
The Flowers & Plants Association recommends the following:

Make sure vases are very clean
Use fresh lukewarm water with commercial cut flower food added
Strip all leaves below the water level
Take at least 1” off all stems, making a slanted cut with a sharp knife or very sharp scissors
Avoid direct sunlight, heat or draughts which can shorten flowers’ lives
Keep flowers away from fruit and remove faded flowers as they occur
Top up the water regularly and add flower food in proportion

Orchids
Phaleonopsis
Bright filtered indirect light with no direct sun.  Keep warm 70 to 85 degrees with
a nighttime low of 62.  Water about once a week and let drain completely out of weep
holes at bottom of pot (do this with all orchids); do not allow pot to sit in standing water.
Water in the early morning and keep water away from the growth crown of the plant.
Use a straw to blow out any water that gets in the crown.  This helps to prevent crown rot.
When plant is done flowering, cut flower stem to second or third internode to encourage a
second flowering or remove stem at one inch from base to allow for a new flower stem
to develop.  Phaleonopsis orchids bloom about once a year for 4 to 6 weeks.
